Absolutely not, but as a system and network admin, I know enough to know that accounts don't miraculously get hacked. Anet can monitor suspicious transactions, that's why I think 'hackers' want to make it look like normal trade actions when they transfer the gold and put some items in the trade box.

@ Frill: An IT security specialist uses a set of skills and tools as well, but he gets officialy paid for it while a hacker does not.

@ Arkantos: yes, it's mostly the user's fault. So whatever happened, his brother did something that wasn't 'smart', as well as the second 'user' of the account.

@ Bristlebane: that's possible yes.

So whatever you guys may say, if the account indeed got hacked it is most likely a mistake on his brother's end. My first post was more like a teasing remark, that's why I added the big grin smiley.

What the puppeteer says a few posts below is possible too.

Hey now, I consider myself a bit of a hacker. The problem is the term is misused because of misunderstanding and hollywood. Nothing wrong with a good hacker.

Now crackers and script kiddies....

You think if they set that up to happen to their account they'd tell us about it?

That'd be pretty stupid so the OP is either ridicilously stupid or the hacker was. And the OP doesn't speak in a stupid way, so I'm taking the high road on this one and saying "lol k"

I don't think the person who has been leveling your brother's account is a hacker, he might have bought that account from a hacker.

The only difference is "official". Hackers get paid by the job, a lot more than if they were IT engineers doing similar pentest activities, because their "employers" are much richer.

Moral nihilism?

Look, every culture has definitions of "evil" and "good."

Sure, we can debate what is "evil" and what is "good", but a debate doesn't mean the concept doesn't exist.

You would be shocked at how the security industry works.

As I said before, learn what a "white hat hacker" is.

And then meet one.

They are also called Computer engeniers -_- and Software testers -_- what else i knew while in my C class -_-.......

from a dictionary

Hacker -a programmer who breaks into computer systems in order to steal or change or destroy information as a form of cyber-terrorism

From Wiki

Computer Engineering (also called Electronic and Computer Engineering or Computer Systems Engineering) is a discipline that combines both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.[1] Computer engineers usually have training in electrical engineering, software design and hardware-software integration instead of only software engineering or electrical engineering. Computer engineers are involved in many aspects of computing, from the design of individual microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers, to circuit design. This field of engineering not only focuses on how computer systems themselves work, but also how they integrate into the larger picture.[2]

And this is as well

Software Testing is an empirical investigation conducted to provide stakeholders with information about the quality of the product or service under test[1], with respect to the context in which it is intended to operate. Software Testing also provides an objective, independent view of the software to allow the business to appreciate and understand the risks at implementation of the software. Test techniques include, but are not limited to, the process of executing a program or application with the intent of finding software bugs. Software Testing can also be stated as the process of validating and verifying that a software program/application/product (1) meets the business and technical requirements that guided its design and development; (2) works as expected; and (3) can be implemented with the same characteristics.

Happy? i did both of the things you asked. an extra -_-

Quotes-

Hacker attitudes

Several subgroups of the computer underground with different attitudes and aims use different terms to demarcate themselves from each other, or try to exclude some specific group with which they do not agree. Eric S. Raymond advocates that members of the computer underground should be called crackers. Yet, those people see themselves as hackers and even try to include the views of Raymond in what they see as one wider hacker culture, a view harshly rejected by Raymond himself. Instead of a hacker – cracker dichotomy, they give more emphasis to a spectrum of different categories, such as white hat (ethical hacking), grey hat, black hat and script kiddie. In contrast to Raymond, they usually reserve the term cracker to refer to black hat hackers, or more generally hackers with unlawful intentions.

White hat = Hacker
Main article: White hat

A white hat hacker breaks security for non-malicious reasons, for instance testing their own security system. This type of hacker enjoys learning and working with computer systems, and consequently gains a deeper understanding of the subject. Such people normally go on to use their hacking skills in legitimate ways, such as becoming security consultants. The word 'hacker' was originally used to describe people such as these.

Grey hat
Main article: Grey hat

A grey hat hacker is a hacker of ambiguous ethics and/or borderline legality, often frankly admitted.

Black hat = Cracker
Main article: Black hat

A black hat hacker is someone who subverts computer security without authorization or uses technology (usually a computer or the Internet) for vandalism (malicious destruction), credit card fraud, identity theft, intellectual property theft, or other types of crime.

Script kiddie
Main article: Script kiddie

A script kiddie is a non-expert who breaks into computer systems by using pre-packaged automated tools written by others. These are the outcasts of the hacker community. Also referred to as a Skiddiot.

Hacktivist
Main article: Hacktivism

A hacktivist is a hacker who utilizes technology to announce a social, ideological, religious, or political message. In general, most hactivism involves website defacement or denial-of-service attacks. In more extreme cases, hactivism is used as tool for Cyberterrorism.
